Rainy Morning

5 July 2010 | Home  |

A damp, grey Saturday morning. I took Max and Tycho out. The rain had stopped, but only just, I could still hear the soft drip of rain from the trees and the leaves.

Photographs of the garden from that morning. It looked suddenly ethereal, perhaps because it was so quiet. It was overwhelming: the green too vibrant, none of that tired dustiness. Just the moist earth, soft underfoot and an explosion of green and colour.

Even the dogs were quiet — Tycho chasing his imagination, and Max rooting like a hog … for what? No truffles here.

Everything seem magnified, very sharp. Nothing moved in the after-rain stillness, not the leaves, not the flowers.

The house looked stately and peaceful, smaller than its neighbours but happy in its setting. I managed a 270° panorama shot — sort of; the top of the house got chopped off and I’m going to have to redo it. That means waiting for another day.
